Flexible After School and Weekend Tutoring

Students explore graphic novels and fantasy fiction, unpacking genre conventions and the stages of a hero’s journey as they read and respond to texts. Weekly quizzes track progress, building to an end-of-term Topic Test with marking and feedback provided.

Learning methods available

This course strengthens non-fiction and discursive writing, from writing about family and food to feature articles, social media, and comedic pieces. Following an in-class writing task, students complete an end-of-term Topic Test under exam conditions.

Students read and analyse a novel in depth, exploring plot, setting, and characterisation before considering point of view, mood, and theme. The term builds to an end-of-term Topic Test under exam conditions.

Students examine rhetoric and persuasion through real historical and political movements before composing and delivering their own speeches. Debate and free speech round out the term, leading to an End-of-Term Test under exam conditions.

Students engage with a range of Australian stories, from convict history to contemporary perspectives on identity and ownership of narrative. They explore personal connections to texts and debates over the literary canon, concluding with a Topic Test under exam conditions.
