Sydney Boys accepts a small number of students transferring in from other schools in Years 8, 9 and 11. The entrance requirements remain high, as the school strongly supports a well-rounded education in terms of academics, sports and co-curricular.
There are differing requirements and process for entering Sydney Boys at different stages. Let’s took a look at them.
Up to 180 students are admitted in year 7 via the Selective High School Placement Test conducted in March every year. In order to be considered for entry in year 7, students must apply in November of year 5 and sit the Selective High School Placement Test the following year when they are in year 6.
You’ll find more detailed information about this process in the next part of this Guide, applying to Sydney Boys for Year 7 admission.
Students can also enter the school in years 8, 9 and 11 with a direct application to the school.
Students are rarely accepted in Year 8 as there a very few disenrolments from Sydney Boys. Note that the school does not accept enrolments into year 10 and 12.
To gain entry into years 8, 9 or 11, applicants will need to submit a written application directly to the school. If they are short-listed, the school will invite applicants to sit a Placement Test and attend an interview that will determine their final rankings for admission into the school.
For more information about the application process, read part 3 of this Guide, applying to Sydney Boys in years 8-11.
