Did you know you can secure a place at university before finishing Year 12?
University early entry schemes are designed to help you reduce stress and give you certainty about your future. These programs let you showcase more than just your ATAR by highlighting your Year 11 and 12 results, extracurriculars, and personal achievements.
By applying for a university early entry scheme, you can focus on your HSC prep or VCE prep without worrying about your final ATAR. It’s a smart way to achieve your goals while recognising the hard work you’ve already put in.

University early entry schemes help you lock in a university spot before you even sit your final exams. Here’s why you should explore these opportunities:
With an early offer to university, you can focus on performing your best in the HSC or VCE without the constant pressure of getting a super high ATAR.
Example: You’d normally need a 96+ ATAR for A Bachelor of Law at UTS, but with the UTS Early Entry Program, you only need an 80 ATAR.
Knowing you’ve already received a university offer can make Year 12 feel less overwhelming. It means your hard work in Year 11 and other activities has already been recognised.
Early entry programs don’t just look at your grades. They also consider things like leadership, volunteering, and other activities.
Example: Macquarie University’s Leaders and Achievers program wants you to show involvement in at least two areas, like leadership, initiative or community service.
Some early entry pathways are designed to reflect your strengths and passions in particular subjects.
Example: Western Sydney University’s HSC True Reward Program offers admission based on your performance in specific HSC subjects. So, if you excel in Biology or Chemistry, you can get entry into health or science degrees without relying on your ATAR.
By taking advantage of early entry programs, you can turn your focus to finishing school strong while knowing your future is already on track.

Each university has its own application process. However, the following steps generally apply:
Start by exploring the universities and programs that interest you. Then, visit their websites or refer to resources like the UAC page on early offers (UAC Early Offer Schemes) to learn about their eligibility and application requirements.
Start gathering all the necessary documents. You’ll typically need:
Apply through the correct portal, such as the university’s website or UAC’s Schools Recommendation Schemes (SRS) for multiple universities. Carefully read all instructions and make sure all your documents are formatted and uploaded correctly.
Tailor your responses to showcase how your unique strengths and achievements align with the program’s focus.
Remember, you can submit applications to multiple universities and even receive early offers from several institutions.
Create an Excel sheet to keep all your deadlines and application statuses in one place. Here’s an example of what to include in your early entry tracker.

Most early entry programs close by August or September, ahead of HSC/VCE exams. Don’t miss out on securing a spot!
Use a reminder app or calendar to track application dates for each program, like the one below!
Your application response is your chance to stand out. Here’s how to make it effective:
Research the program’s focus (leadership, community work, or academics) and show how you fit. For example, if leadership is key, share an example of leading a team and the results.
Write honestly about your experiences and goals. Avoid exaggeration or overly formal language. Be sincere.
Focus on 2-3 achievements relevant to the program. For example, for Macquarie’s Leaders and Achievers program, mention leading a school project, volunteering, or excelling in sports or arts.
List your achievements and their impact. Instead of “I volunteered at a charity,” say, “I led a fundraiser that raised $2,000, providing meals for 500 families.”
Explain why the course excites you and how it ties to your goals. For example, if applying for education, describe how mentoring younger students inspired you, or your experience educating others.
Use the START structure to directly address the question:
Check that your response directly addresses the question and aligns with the program’s requirements. Ask your teacher or Matrix tutor to review for clarity and focus.
