Finance Manager

Matrix Education has an opportunity for a Finance Manager to join the us at our Sydney CBD head office.

The Finance Manager plays a critical role within the finance team, primarily focusing on financial control, compliance, and reporting.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, this position is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the organisation’s financial operations, leading audit and compliance processes, and supporting the Financial Controller in budgeting, forecasting, system improvements, and stakeholder reporting.

What you’ll do…

  • Oversee monthly and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist the Financial Controller in preparing management reports, board reports, and financial statements.
  • Coordinate all audit activities and act as the primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax legislation, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and improve payroll, award interpretation, and tax compliance processes.
  • Support the Financial Controller in the development of annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
  • Provide financial analysis and modelling to support business decisions.
  • Manage a team of 4–5 finance staff (onshore and offshore), providing guidance, mentoring, and performance oversight.
  • Allocate tasks, monitor deliverables, and ensure adherence to internal deadlines and external reporting obligations.
  • Drive continuous improvement of internal controls and finance processes.
  • Assist in the implementation and optimisation of financial systems and technology platforms.
  • Support the Financial Controller and executive team with ad hoc strategic projects, including M&A-related activities and due diligence.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to support investment decisions and strategic planning.

 

What you’ll need…

  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards, tax and payroll compliance.
  • Experience managing teams, including offshore staff, with a focus on performance and development.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong systems knowledge and experience in supporting financial system implementations.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to process improvement.
