Approach
Structured Acceleration
Across 9 weeks, students complete the entire next term’s Biology content before it is taught at school. This proactive approach gives them familiarity and confidence when topics appear in class and frees up time during the term for revision, consolidation, and other demanding subjects.
Teaching Approach
Each weekly lesson is led by expert Biology teachers using clear explanations, explicit instruction, and step-by-step worked examples. Students reinforce their learning through scaffolded practice, regular quizzes, and exam-style homework that builds assessment confidence and scientific writing skills.
Content Mix
Lessons focus on both conceptual understanding and practical application. Students explore key syllabus areas such as cells, living systems, biological diversity, and ecosystems in depth, while applying their knowledge to exam-style questions and data analysis tasks. This balance ensures students can transfer theory into written responses with accuracy and clarity.
9-Week Sequencing
Each lesson builds on the last, following a deliberate progression that steadily develops higher-order skills. Weekly quizzes, topic tests, and homework tasks help track progress and strengthen understanding. By the end of the term, students are well prepared for assessments and confident in their ability to perform at their best.

Matrix was honestly one of the best tutoring places I have ever been to. It was only through the experienced tutors and their brilliant guidance I was able to achieve Band 6’s in all my subjects and achieve a 99+ ATAR. I thank you Matrix and I cannot be anymore grateful.
The Matrix Year 11 Biology course has greatly aided in a better understanding of the course content at school. The quality and structure of the Matrix Biology course – especially the Theory Book and Work Book – have truly helped me to tackle every syllabus dot point in a guided and orderly fashion.
North Sydney Girls High School
The Biology Holiday Course teachers helped me understand and remember fundamental principles. I was able to recall certain terms which overall allowed me to memorise them better during the school term.
North Sydney Girls High School
Matrix always does an amazing job at structuring the content around key concept that will actually be assessed in exams in order to maximise marks and study efficacy. Especially since Biology is a content-heavy subject, this is useful when preparing for exams and making sure to hit all criteria.
Sydney Girls High School
Matrix holiday classes run one term ahead of school, which I feel allows students to revise concepts quite well before they study them at school. Classes at school often require a quite in-depth understanding of concepts, and being able to revise these beforehand has been exceptionally useful.
Sydney Girls High School
Who are Matrix Year 11 Biology teachers?
All Matrix Year 11 Biology teachers are experienced educators who possess degrees in Science-related disciplines. Our Biology experts are knowledgeable, qualified, and have the real teaching experience necessary to explain concepts clearly whilst making learning engaging and enjoyable for senior students.
How do Matrix teachers teach Year 11 Biology?
Matrix Year 11 Biology teachers deliver a structured and engaging secondary Science tutoring experience through a mix of direct instructional and interactive teaching. All Matrix Year 11 Biology tutoring courses include high-quality resources designed to provide students and teachers with proven methods for critical thinking, problem-solving and exam techniques.
Does the Matrix Year 11 Biology course follow the NSW school syllabus?
Yes, the Matrix Year 11 Biology course thoroughly covers the new NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Biology Syllabus. The course helps students develop strong foundations in all aspects of Biology, ensuring students are confident and well-prepared at school.
Will the course match what my child is learning at school?
Matrix teaches Biology one term ahead of the school curriculum, with Year 11 Term 1 starting in October while students are still in Year 10. This means students learn in advance, gain a competitive advantage over their school peers, and reinforce their understanding and confidence when the topic is revisited at school.
My child doesn’t know if they’ll be placed in Year 11 Biology. Can they still join?
Yes. Students are welcome to enrol in Matrix Year 11 Biology courses, even if their school placement has not yet been confirmed.
Why are Year 11 Biology classes 3 hours long?
Biology has a reputation for being content-heavy compared to other science subjects. Unlike Chemistry and Physics — which teach scientific laws, principles, and equations — Year 11 Biology studies require you to dive into the diversity of life, the function of cells, and all of the body systems. In school, this translates to lengthy textbook chapters as required reading.
The new Biology syllabus, first implemented in 2027, has expanded significantly compared to the prior Biology syllabus. Concepts such as cell division and human homeostasis have been taken from Year 12 and added to Year 11. Two older Modules were also merged into one, increasing the number of syllabus points in a single module by 50%.
Matrix teachers have taken onboard feedback from students that tricky concepts in Year 11 Biology need more time and discussion in class. 3-hours lessons gives you the space to properly work through more advanced concepts now that they sit in Year 11 — so you can build a solid foundation before moving into Year 12 Biology.
How many students are in a Matrix class?
Matrix classes are capped at 15 students per class, seated in a U-shaped layout to encourage participation, peer discussion, and teacher-student interaction.
How long is each Matrix Year 11 Biology tutoring lesson?
Each Year 11 Biology tutoring lesson runs for 3 hours and consists of Theory, Application, and In-Class Practice.
How is my child’s progress tracked?
Student progress is tracked through weekly homework review, classroom participation, and performance in quizzes and topic tests. Teachers provide verbal and written feedback to support improvement. Parents can view student progress on our Matrix Learning Management System (LMS).
If a student needs extra help, they can get instant academic support via our AI-powered Chatbot or attend optional Workshops for personalised guidance.
If my child misses a Biology lesson, how can they catch up?
Students gain access to Matrix Theory Tutorial Videos on our Matrix Learning Management System (LMS), which contains the same content covered in-class. Videos are paired with the Matrix Theory Book and Work Book, allowing students to review lessons at home, and return to class prepared.
How is the Matrix Holiday course different from the Matrix Term course?
The Year 11 Biology Holiday Accelerated Course enables students to complete an entire term’s content in just 9 days. This condensed, structured format provides students with a strategic head start, maximising continued learning and retention while freeing up term time for ongoing revision.
The Term course develops skills gradually across several weeks, allowing time for deeper learning, regular practice, and steady improvement.
Can my child revise the previous term’s Biology content during the Holiday course?
Yes. In the Matrix Year 11 Biology Holiday Accelerated Course, students have the option to revise the previous term’s content. This helps them to consolidate their learning, address knowledge gaps, and reinforce key concepts before learning new content.
What should my child bring to class?
Students should bring a pencil case, water bottle, and a readiness to learn. All other learning resources are provided on the first day of class.
What is Matrix+?
Matrix+ is an online Year 11 Biology tutoring course consisting of on-demand Theory Tutorial Videos paired with a Matrix Theory Book and Work Book. It is a flexible, accessible, affordable, and self-paced alternative to Matrix on-campus tutoring.
Does my child need to attend Matrix+ at a set time?
No. Year 11 Biology Matrix+ students can watch on-demand video tutorials anytime and anywhere. Students can pause, replay, or speed up videos, making it an accessible and flexible learning experience for all types of learners.
Which Biology courses can my child complete on Matrix+?
Students have the flexibility to complete multiple Year 11 Biology courses at the same time. They can also enrol into past Term courses to catch up on missed content.
Due to the new 2027 syllabus changes, Matrix+ modules will be released on a rolling basis.
How long will my child have access to the Matrix+ course?
Year 11 Biology students begin their Matrix+ online course on the first day of the Matrix Term. They can access all Theory Tutorial Videos, Q&A Discussion Boards, and online resources until 31 December of the Matrix academic year. For example, students enroled in the Year 11 Maths Advanced Matrix+ course for Term 1 (beginning in October) will have access until the end of the following calendar year.
