Overview
The Matrix Year 6 Maths Acceleration Course is a structured 9-week program designed for mathematically talented students who are ready to be challenged beyond the standard school curriculum. Students continue extending their Maths skills at the level they have already reached, so they arrive at high school ahead of the curve and stay there.
Through 9 weekly 1.5-hour lessons, students cover advanced topics from Year 7 Maths. Lessons are faster-paced, with a balance of explicit teaching, step-by-step worked examples, and challenging non-routine problems. Exam-style homework provides targeted feedback to refine mastery.

Entry Requirements
To make sure every student is learning at the right pace and is challenged appropriately, all students complete an entry test before joining the Maths Acceleration Course. The exception is students who completed the Selective Test Preparation course in April – contact us via phone or email for enrolment details.
Application Process
1. Submit an Application
Complete the online application form and provide your child’s recent school report or relevant documents.
2. Book the Entrance Test
Within 48 hours, our Customer Experience Team will contact you to schedule your child for the next available Maths Acceleration Entrance Test (tests run every 2 weeks).
3. Receive Results and Next Steps
After the test, our Academic Team reviews your child’s performance and will contact you within 7 days with the results and next steps for enrolment.

Across 9 weeks, students will be exposed to accelerated Year 7 content. At the end of the term, they will sit an online topic test that will determine whether they continue in Year 7 Maths Acceleration, or join a higher-level course. This ensures students are learning at the right pace and being challenged at the correct level.

If your child is consistently achieving 85% or more in Year 6 Maths assessments or performed well in the Maths sections of the Selective School Test, then this course is highly suitable.
Is there an entry test for the Year 6 Maths Acceleration course?
Yes. New and existing students are required to complete a short entry test before enroling in the Matrix Year 6 Maths Acceleration Course. This assessment helps ensure the course is the right fit for your child’s current abilities and knowledge, so they are both challenged appropriately and supported effectively.
If your child completed the Selective Test Preparation course at Matrix in April, they will not be required to sit the entry test.
What Matrix class will my child enrol in after they complete Year 6 Maths Acceleration?
Students will sit an online Topic Test in Week 9 to determine their progress. Depending on their results, your child will either be enroled in Year 7 Maths Acceleration or a higher level course, to ensure they are learning at the right pace and being challenged appropriately.
How many students are in a Matrix Year 6 Maths class?
Matrix classes are capped at 15 students per class, seated in a U-shaped layout to encourage participation, peer discussion, and teacher-student interaction.
How long is each Matrix Year 6 Maths tutoring lesson?
Each Year 6 Maths tutoring lesson runs for 1.5 hours and consists of Theory, Application, and In-Class Practice.
How is my child’s progress tracked?
Student progress is tracked through weekly homework review, classroom participation, and performance in the online end-of-term topic test. Teachers provide verbal and written feedback to support improvement. Parents can view student progress on our Matrix Learning Management System (LMS).
If my child misses a Year 6 Maths lesson, how can they catch up?
Students gain access to Matrix Theory Tutorial Videos on our Matrix Learning Management System (LMS), which contains the same content covered in-class. Videos are paired with the Matrix Theory Book, allowing students to review lessons at home and return to class prepared.
What is Matrix+?
Matrix+ is an online Year 6 Maths Acceleration tutoring course consisting of on-demand Theory Tutorial Videos paired with a Matrix Theory Book. It is a flexible, accessible, affordable, and self-paced alternative to Matrix on-campus tutoring.
Does my child need to attend Matrix+ at a set time?
No. Year 6 Maths Acceleration Matrix+ students can watch on-demand video tutorials anytime and anywhere. Students can pause, replay, or speed up videos, making it an accessible and flexible learning experience for all types of learners.
How long will my child have access to the Matrix+ course?
Year 6 Maths Acceleration students begin their Matrix+ online course on the first day of the Matrix Term. They can access all Theory Tutorial Videos, Q&A Discussion Boards, and online resources until 31 December.
